Welcome!
I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Bologna, Italy. I work on questions in economic history, political economy, and economic development, with an emphasis on the role of shocks, culture and institutions, and the use of original historical sources. My research has been concerned with a diverse set of topics including migration and the transmission of political ideologies between Italy and Argentina, the legacy of medieval republican/autocratic experiences for attitudes towards the state and political preferences in Italy, the role of political geography for development in pre-industrial Europe, and the effects of natural disasters and epidemics on development and discriminatory attitudes.
